POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision the Landscape Lead oversees landscape activities in installing and maintaining landscaped areas, roads, and parking lots of assigned facilities. This job class requires knowledge of landscaping practices, standards, supplies and equipment; and the ability to organize, schedule and supervise the work of people with developmental disabilities in assigned locations. Employees in this job perform work to assure grounds are maintained in safe and pristine condition.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. * Performs landscape maintenance activities: mows lawns, trims hedges, shrubs, pulls weeds and maintains flower beds to maintain the overall appearance of landscape vegetation and grounds s.
2. * Trains employees; sets up work, directs workflow, and monitors progress of projects through to completion. Ensures adherence to procedures, regulations and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks.
3. * Provides work instruction and training in the safe and proper use of equipment and chemicals to include the application of fertilizer, weed killer, and necessary pesticides, pulls weeds, and maintains flower beds.
4. * Oversees work activities and reviews work to ensure it is performed safely, on-time, and according to established procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
5. * Monitors and maintains irrigation systems to ensure that vegetation is properly irrigated.
6. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of landscaping experience;
- Ability to effectively train and direct employees to meet departmental goals/objectives;
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance standards and techniques, materials, and the safe and proper use of chemicals;
- Knowledge of departmental operations and procedures, and organizational policies;
- Knowledge of Cal OSHA and OSHA occupational safety regulations;
- Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others;
- Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
- Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team;
- Effective customer service skills;
- Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
- Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
- Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and commonsense skills.

Valid Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• Standing and walking
• Bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and shoveling
• Lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
• Carrying a 20-pound backpack blower
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of work is performed on job sites, in an environment using grounds maintenance tools, mechanical and electrical equipment. Employees may be exposed to uneven surfaces, toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment and depending one external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold and heat. Travel to other worksites is required for certain positions.
